Power quality can be defined as the interaction of electrical power with electrical equipment. If all the equipment operates correctly and reliably without being damaged or stressed, the electrical power is of good quality.

The most important parameters to technically define power quality are:

  • Voltage magnitude
  • Power
  • Frequency
  • Voltage events (sags, swells, and interruptions)
  • Harmonics and interharmonics
  • Flicker

Power quality measurements and analyses are important to diagnose power system problems. Without correct and adequate measurements, these problems may be overlooked or misapprehended. Therefore, using high speed and accurate power quality analysers is crucial in the measurement process. Moreover, the diagnosis stage needs experience on different types of load characteristics and problems.
